Tribulus Terrestris

Independent studies have shown that Tribulus terrestris extract slightly increases hormone levels, though leaving them in the normal range. Some have compared the tonic properties of Tribulus terrestris to the effects of ginseng, but these occur due to entirely different mechanisms. Tribulus terrestris increases testosterone by increasing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) which in turn stimulates the production of LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Testosterone, besides its role in muscle-building and raising fertility and libido, is also known to have a positive effect on bone marrow activity (for red blood cell production) and the immune system. The active chemical in T. terrestris is proven to be protodioscin (PTN), a cousin to DHEA. T. terrestris also contains saponins, believed to be useful in the human diet for controlling cholesterol.

Tongkat Ali

Eurycoma longifolia has become popular for its testosterone-enhancing properties. It has therefore been included in some herbal supplements for bodybuilders. Historically, South East Asia has utilized the herb for its suggested antimalarial, antipyretic, antinuclear, cytotoxic and aphrodisiac properties. In other studies, fractions of Eurycoma longifolia Jack extract have been shown to induce apoptosis in breast-cancer cells and to be catatoxic to lung-cancer cells. The British Journal of Sports Medicine published the results of a scientific study in 2003, which showed that Eurycoma longifolia caused increased muscle strength and size when compared to a placebo. Some athletes and body builders now use Tongkat Ali extract in the hope that it will act as a testosterone-booster, to improve muscle size, strength, and performance without drugs.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)

A natural steroid prohormone produced from cholesterol by the adrenal glands, the gonads, fat tissue, brain and in the skin (by an autocrine mechanism). DHEA is the precursor of androstenedione, which can undergo further conversion to produce the androgen testosterone and the estrogens estrone and estradiol.

Tesofen™ (Fenugreek extract – 50% Fenuside)
